Donald Trump Announces ‘Triumphal Arch’ Construction in 2 Months, Assures Nation It Will Be Loved More Than Ballroom
Critics question cost and authority, but Donald Trump says construction of his Triumphal Arch will begin within two months. The monument is part of 2026’s 250th anniversary plans.
President Donald Trump has confirmed that construction on his long-discussed Triumphal Arch will begin “sometime in the next two months,” placing the ceremonial groundbreaking comfortably ahead of July 4, 2026 — the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“It’ll be great. Everyone loves it,” Trump said in a phone interview from Mar-a-Lago. “They love the ballroom too. But they love the Triumphal Arch.”
The ranking system remains under review.
Monumental Ambition
The proposed structure, loosely modeled on European victory monuments, is part of the administration’s sweeping semiquincentennial vision. Plans have placed it near the Lincoln Memorial, on the far side of a bridge leading toward Arlington National Cemetery — because subtlety is not a design priority.
Trump has personally displayed scale models of the arch in recent months, framing it as a patriotic landmark meant to honor American history and military service.
Critics, meanwhile, have raised questions about:
• Cost
• Aesthetics
• Executive authority
• And whether Washington, D.C., requires a triumphal arch in the first place
The White House has not released finalized funding details.
But it has released enthusiasm.
Ballroom vs. Arch: A Cultural Debate
The Triumphal Arch joins a growing portfolio of capital improvements championed by Trump, including a White House ballroom expansion — previously described as larger than the White House itself — and now, apparently, a monument visible from space.
“They love the ballroom too,” Trump reiterated. “But they love the Triumphal Arch.”
Historians are still determining which branch of government approves love.

Not content with arches and architecture, Trump also confirmed plans for a UFC event on White House grounds on June 14.
When asked who would fight, Trump deferred to UFC President Dana White.
“Dana’s picking them. He’s the best fight picker there is, right?” Trump said. “Going to be all championship matches. It’ll be the best ever.”
The president suggested there could be as many as ten matches.
Because nothing commemorates 250 years of constitutional democracy quite like an octagon.
The Bigger Frame
Beyond monuments and mixed martial arts, Trump also discussed Republican midterm strategy, suggesting the upcoming election will revolve around pricing issues. He further described himself as the final decisionmaker in any peace deal related to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Architecture. Energy policy. Global conflict. Cage fights.
The portfolio is expansive.
Timeline: Pending Greatness
Construction: “Next two months.”
Public review: uncertain.
Authority debates: ongoing.
Confidence level: absolute.
Washington has long featured monuments to presidents past.
Now, if all proceeds according to schedule, it may soon feature one built during a presidency still in progress.
The arch is coming.
The ballroom is expanding.
The octagon is assembling.
And according to its chief advocate, everyone already loves it.
