Authorities and families have begun identifying the victims of the twin shootings that left eight people dead and dozens injured in the small town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

The attacks, which took place at a local school and a private residence, have devastated the community of roughly 3,000 residents, where many people knew those affected.

Among those killed was 39-year-old Jennifer Strang, identified as the mother of the 18-year-old suspect. She was found dead at a residence along with another family member. Court records from earlier years described Strang and her children as having lived a highly mobile lifestyle across Canada before settling in British Columbia.

Twelve-year-old Kylie Smith was also confirmed among the victims. Family members described her as deeply loved, creative, and passionate about art and anime. Relatives said she was a central presence in her family’s life.

Police reported that the suspect’s 11-year-old stepbrother was also killed at the residence.

At Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, five victims were killed, including a teacher and four students. The student victims included two 12-year-old girls and two boys aged 12 and 13. The teacher, identified as a 39-year-old woman, was also among those who died.

In addition to the fatalities, 27 people were injured in the attacks, intensifying the impact on a close-knit community where the tragedy has touched many families directly.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shootings as residents mourn and local officials coordinate support services for victims’ families and survivors.
